Gorée and the Pink Lake
After breakfast we head for a short city tour of Dakar.
See the Independence Square, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral “Souvenir African”, the African Renaissance Monument further down and the mosque of the divinity
We will drive after to the ferry boarding place for a lifetime visit to the former island of slaves.
Stop inside the museum of slaves, where the curator will remind us the dark days of the triangular trade
Visit the different cells in which they used to live, visit the slaves weighing room, the cell for the children, for the men and for the ladies
Let us walk down the hallway to the door of No Return.
After this place, we will walk around the tiny island up to the most elevated part of the island, (the Castel) to catch a nice view of Dakar.
We will see the island Memorial and the remnants of canons dating back to Second World War.
Walk down to the Historical Museum, a place where you will discover the history around Gorée and Senegal as well.
We will take the ferry around midday to drive to the Pink lake
The Retba or Pink lake is located between the great coast and the Atlantic Ocean, in the Niayes region after one hour from Dakar.
Once we arrive at the place, we can enjoy our Chicken Yassa for lunch, before discovering the site
The lake is famous, because it was the final stage of the former Paris-Dakar Rallye…
An amazing place with the different colors of its waters, from purple to mauve then pink once the sun at the zenith.
Visit the salt harvesters and interact with them
Let us sail by boat or just float on the pink waters, the same feeling we can get on the Dead Sea
Back to the hotel.
