Lompoul Desert – Touba Holy City
Departure early in the afternoon for the North with some stops on the way.
At Thies, the railway city, to discover its Tapestry factory and the artisanal village, home to local artists displaying wares for sale as textiles, drums, jewellery, sculptures, paintings…
Another stop in Ngay, the city of the Leather, we will meet the local artisans to learn how they use the leather in their workshops. Most of the goods are handmade and often intended for export in the sub-region, and also to overseas markets.
Continuation for Lompoul village, where we will change locomotion means.
We will embark on some all-terrain vehicles to reach the desert in less than an hour of driving.
Covering an area of approximately 18 sq km, the Desert of Lompoul is nestled between the great coast and the eucalyptus forest. It is characterized by its pink and orange dunes.
Let us enjoy a camel ride and stop on the top dunes for our postcard with a panoramic view of the coastline and sunset.

Overnight in comfortable tents and feel like nomads
After observing the sun rise through the sandy dunes, we will have breakfast and route toward the holy city of Touba, which is a land of a powerful, called the Mouride.
Visit the largest and most magnificent mosque in Africa, Touba is also compared to the Vatican by its autonomous administration.
We will learn about Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the spiritual founder of Mouridism, the only brotherhood born in Senegal
Spend a few minutes in the large library, which holds thousands of volumes all handwritten by the mystic founder.
Learn about the history of Touba, one of the most significant cities in Senegal, and head back to the Hotel.
